During the mid 80’s, I kind of “wandered” to & from various shops in and around Chicago, not really finding a place where things were very stable (the music biz is definitely a “fickle” place to earn a living). I even spent a year on the West coast, working for a shop in San Francisco, where I began to make a bit of a name for myself, only to be drawn back to Chicago by way of a Love affair (which went “belly-up” soon after returning to Chi.).
One shop I worked at in the later 80’s had the unfortunate fate of major flooding to the ceiling! In the course of trying to save a multitude of flood victims (including some of my own
gear), I acquired some valuable experience with respect to overhauling amps that I have used ever since with wonderful results (not just for flood victims).
Since the mid 90’s, I’ve been operating my own shop, Mac/Amps. I had a number of good years on the North side [of Chicago], relying heavily on “word-of-mouth” referrals for my advertising.
In 2003 I re-located to the near Western suburb of Berwyn, where I currently reside……..what lies ahead?........(keep in touch!)
